A Night at the Movies with Safe Schools St. Vrain

When:

Monday October 18th - 6:30pm to 9:30pm

Where:

Longmont Public Library - 409 4th Ave, Longmont CO

Details:

We will be showing a movie and having a panel discussion about Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, and Transgender youth.

A potluck dinner will be provided.

The movie is Out in Silence: Love, Hate, and a Quest for Change in Small Town America.

The panel will include students, parents and community members speaking about the experience of LBGTIQ youth in our community.

Our Mission:

Community and Schools working together to foster a safe environment that encourages educational success for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, intersexed, and questioning youth(LGBTIQ), staff and parents in the St. Vrain Valley School District.

 

 Our Role:

The work of the SVVSSC in the St. Vrain Valley School District:

 

 We will do this by:

• Fosters a safe school climate for LGBTIQ students, staff, and parents
• Advocates for LGBTIQ students, staff, and parents who are targets of harassment or discrimination
• Trains teachers, administrators, and parents to create a safe school climate for the LGBTIQ population
• Promotes the use of the resource guide Everyone Counts in elementary, middle, and high schools
• Supports the nondiscrimination policy
• Supports Gay/Straight Alliances (GSAs)
• Networks with local, state, and national groups who share our concerns
